More than 150 works of art in oil, watercolor, pastel, gouache and acrylic will be featured during the American Impressionist Society’s 9th annual AIS Impressions Small Works Showcaseat Fallbrook Art Center in sunny Fallbrook, California. Works in the show were selected by a five-member jury in a blind process; also included as part of the event is an additional 20 paintings from AIS Masters, board members, officers and founders.
Calvin Liang, Shadow and Light, oil, 12 x 16"“AIS is pleased to present our annual event in southern California near the mountains and vineyards,” says executive director Liz Ahrens. The show opens February 14 and runs through March 29. Opening week events, which begin on February 11, include the always anticipated Paint Out, which features more than 50 artists painting in plein air throughout the region. “Their paintings will be on sale for one day only on Saturday, February 15, so we highly encourage visitors to look for the artists as they capture the local scenery,” says Ahrens. “For one day, over 200 paintings created by our AIS members will be on display and available for purchase.”

Huihan Liu, Tibetan Girl, oil, 12 x 9"This year’s awards judge and workshop instructor is AIS Master Peggi Kroll Roberts. A California resident, Roberts uses bold brushwork and color to capture a multitude of subjects—beach scenes, still lifes, figurative works and more—in a geometric, abstract style. On February 11, Roberts will conduct a one-day plein air workshop “stressing the power of the fundamentals through simple demos and exercises. [Participants] will paint the local area and landscape focusing on capturing the light, good design and color.
